HOMESCHOOL SUPPORT

We have openings for Individual Lessons, available in-person in Bristol or virtually from home.

Structured Literacy Lessons

Structured Literacy Lessons are personalized literacy interventions for PK-12 students.

Our interest-focused and research-based approach combines what your child is truly passionate about with the most effective educational neuroscience, such as the Orton-Gillingham Method.

Structured Literacy Lessons support all learners including those who need an additional challenge to their regular schooling, neurodivergent learners (ex. dyslexia, ADHD, ASD) who require specialized instruction, those with cognitive disabilities and communication disorders, and students who have had frustrating or discouraging experiences with reading and writing.

INSTRUCTION BACKED BY SCIENCE

Why "Structured Literacy"?

Think of learning to read like learning to swim. There are a variety of ways to get into the water, but your toddler isn't ready for the high dive, and your eight-year-old might still need a life jacket. Even if you grew up under a “sink or swim” belief system, you still had to refine your skills gradually; from the first doggy paddle and floating on your back to eventually holding your breath and swimming underwater. No matter the stroke, you mastered the simplest skills first. Only after building that solid foundation could you finally swim for enjoyment. Structured Literacy is the expert-led swimming lesson to Balanced Literacy’s “sink or swim” in the deep end. Unlike traditional methods that leave much to chance, Structured Literacy is explicit, systematic, and cumulative. It is the instructional practice that follows the Science of Reading, using a diagnostic and prescriptive approach backed by educational neuroscience. Through Structured Literacy Lessons, we utilize research-based methodologies including Orton-Gillingham for multisensory and dyslexia-informed phonics, Speech-to-Print to bridge the gap between sounds and symbols, and specialized techniques like Lindamood-Bell for sensory-cognitive processing. By incorporating these methodologies, we can ensure every child has the "life jacket" they need until they are ready to dive in on their own.

TYPES OF SUPPORT

Flexible Learning Pathways

Your child’s path to literacy should be as unique as they are.

We've worked diligently bridge the gap between educational neuroscience and student passion to ensure that our literacy services support all learners.

Note on Enrollment:

The registration process is the same for both Individual and Small Group Lessons. See "Enrollment" for more details or schedule a discovery call and we will walk you through the process!

Small Group Literacy Lessons

Research-Based Skill Progression

We use a color-coded system to group students by literacy skill rather than grade or age to ensure they receive the exact instruction they need to be successful.  While we prioritize skill-matched instruction, we are incredibly intentional about the "vibe" of each group. During each intake session, we get to know the student’s unique personality and we prioritize a supportive group placement with peers who share similar energy and interests.  Our approach is data-driven, and we assess student progress every month to allow for a seamless transition into the next skill group the moment a spot becomes available.

Literacy Services

Structured Literacy Lessons are built for your child, not around them.

In addition to expert reading and writing instruction, literacy lessons can be comprised of the following services to ensure we meet your child's social-emotional, executive functioning, and sensory needs.

Many of these specialized supports can be integrated directly into Individual and Small Group Lessons, and can be requested at any time.

Note: These literacy services can be added to Structured Literacy Lessons to provide more comprehensive support. They are billed in addition to lesson tuition and are typically included on the same invoice.

Comprehensive Evaluations

Every new student begins with an intake evaluation to establish a baseline and ensure data-driven placement in our Individual or Small Group Lessons. For families seeking a deeper understanding of their child's reading and writing abilities, we provide comprehensive evaluations to identify specific strengths and areas for growth.

Dyslexia Remediation

For students with dyslexia and dysgraphia, we provide intensive, multisensory instruction using research-based methods such as the Orton-Gillingham (OG) approach.

VT Home Study Support

Homeschool families can rest assured knowing their end-of-year requirements are handled by a licensed Vermont educator. We offer support with official progress monitoring and ongoing literacy oversight throughout the school year to ensure your home study journey is compliant and enjoyable.

Executive Function Support

We provide direct support for neurodivergent learners who struggle with the "how" of learning such as planning, organization, time management, and task completion. While these skills are woven into all our programs, students can enroll in Individual Lessons with goals specifically dedicated to mastering executive functioning goals.

Functional Adult Literacy

COMING SOON! We are excited to support adults navigating real-world text and digital resources including, but not limited to, AI and digital media literacy. From completing essential paperwork and resumes to improving clear communication skills, we provide the tools needed to master the basic life tasks that can be a challenge with limited literacy.

Parent & Family Coaching

Families can receive direct support from literacy specialists to bridge the gap between clinical lessons and home life. We work with you and your family to create a customized, actionable plan that can be implemented at home, either as a standalone support or in partnership with our Structured Literacy Lessons.

What Families Are Saying...

Third grade handwriting sample of a student with dyslexia and dysgraphia, reading and writing disabilities.

Anyone with special needs children knows it's rare to find that perfect balance of acceptance, compassion and competence. Miss Kayden is a true expert in the field of literacy and is an exemplary example of how the right person can change the trajectory of your child's life.

Our 7 year old has a severe intellectual disability and we have always been worried about his reading skills. Vermont Literacy Network changed the game. He is now reading short books, restaurant menus, and constantly over my shoulder. :)
